Puerto Escondido, “Hidden Port”, got its name from the rocky Punta Escondida,
which designates the half-moon cove. Puerto Escondido has a population of
approximately 50,000 people, made up of residents from various parts of the world.
It seems like two small towns, separated by Hwy 200, which runs along the bluff
above the beach. The upper town is where most of the residents live and go about
their business, while in the town below, most of the tourist restaurants, hotels, and
shops are located on the beach front street.
